Somerset's Indian left-arm spinner Murali Kartik has been named as the Cricket World® County Player Of The Week after he took 11 wickets to help his side beat Warwickshire inside three days of their latest LV= County Championship match at Edgbaston.

Having excelled against the Bears earlier in the season at Taunton, when he took six for 61 as Somerset won by nine wickets, he returned five for 30 and then six for 42 as Somerset did the double by completing a 181-run win.

Kartik's first-innings haul saw Warwickshire bundled out for 140 in reply to Somerset's 268 and after Somerset made 183 in their second innings, Warwickshire were st 312 to win.

With Kartik in impressive form, they were dismissed for 130 as Somerset completed their third win in a row.

In a busy week of county cricket which also included a number of Friends Provident t20 matches, Derbyshire's Loots Bosman and Sussex's Michael Yardy were the other main contenders for the award, while Stephen Peters, Ryan ten Doeschate and Imran Tahir also deserve honourable mentions for excellent performances.

Cricket World® County Player Of The Week
This week's Cricket World County Player of the Week is Ollie Rayner, who put in a superb all-round performance at Trent Bridge, hitting an unbeaten 143 in the visitors' first innings total of 300 for nine declared after being sent in as night-watchman.
Derbyshire all-rounder Jonathan Clare takes this week's award as his match haul of 11 for 57 was the best of the week and he also chipped in with innings of 21 and 43 during his side's low-scoring win over Glamorgan.
Robbie Joseph earns 2012's inaugural award by virtue of his twin six-wicket hauls which combined to give him match figures of 12 for 111. On a pitch which can best be described as sporting, his six for 47 and six for 61 helped bowl Glamorgan out for less than 200 in both innings and handed Leicestershire a 52-run win.
13 centuries were scored last week in county cricket, including doubles by Jimmy Adams and Andrew Strauss as the county season began to reach its climax. There were also eight five wicket-hauls including a ten-wicket match from Cricket World County Player of the Week David Balcombe. The 26 year-old from London took a career-best six for 51 in the first innings against Essex at Canterbury and followed that up with four for 51 in the second to bowl the home side to victory and give them their fifth win of the season.
After a week of county cricket that included both round 18 of the LV= County Championship and Friends Life twenty20 Finals Day, we take a look at the week’s star performers and pick the Cricket World County Player of the Week.
Four men hit twin centuries this week in either the LV= County Championship or Clydesdale Bank 40, making it a tough decision to separate them and choose a batsman as the Cricket World County Player of the Week. There has, however, been one outstanding bowler this week.
