Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes has been named as the Cricket World® County Player Of The week after an outstanding performance in the opening LV= County Championship match against Hampshire.
19-year-old Stokes first helped finish off Hampshire's innings of 294 with a haul of six for 68 in 13 overs including the big wickets of James Vince and Neil McKenzie.
He followed that up by hitting a brilliant unbeaten 135 as Durham declared on 310 for three in reply. Included in Stokes' innings were five sixes from one Liam Dawson over, and he hit 13 fours and one more six in all as Durham set Hampshire an unliekly 490 to win the game.
Other contenders for the award included Yorkshire leg-spinner Adil Rashid, who took two five-wicket hauls to help his side beat Worcestershire by nine wickets and Matthew Hoggard, who took a hat-trick for Leicestershire against Glamorgan.
