The Northamptonshire duo of Stephen Peters and Lee Daggett have committed themselves to Wantage Road until at least the end of the 2013 season after signing contract extensions with the club.

Peters, who hit 864 Championship runs at an average of 43.2 in 2011, said of the news, “I’m delighted to have extended my contract with Northants. Although we narrowly missed out on promotion, we have consistently been challenging for promotion over the past three seasons and it’s only a matter of time before we take that extra step.”

The former Essex opener added, “I’ve really enjoyed my last six seasons at the club, and with the exciting and refreshing development of the younger players here, I can’t wait to continue and help the club progress in the next couple of years.”

Meanwhile, former Warwickshire seamer Daggett, who took 41 wickets in the club’s 2011 LV= County Championship promotion push, appeared to revel in his role as first change bowler, something to which head coach David Capel alluded to in his reaction to the news.

He said, “Lee performed well for us, especially in the first part of the 2011 season. He was well suited to the first-change role in the LV= County Championship, coming in behind Jack Brooks and Chaminda Vaas, and he played a very valuable role in the team.

“In Brooks, Vaas, (Andrew) Hall and Daggett, along with some other young seamers, like David Willey, coming through, I like the look of the combinations we can put together in the seam department.”

Other County News In Brief:

Kent chief executive Jamie Clifford has not ruled out the club signing an overseas player for 2012, although it is understood that any potential signings are likely to be made after the start of the season as was the case in 2011.

In other Kent news, local building firm Cardy has extended its sponsorship of the club for a further two years in a deal estimated to be worth around £100,000 a year.

Craig White has ended his long-standing association with Yorkshire CCC after deciding not to reapply for his job in the new coaching shake-up at the club.

County Cricket
With many of England's county cricketers now heading home from their off-season destinations in time for Christmas, we take our monthly look at how they have been performing for their franchises or states so far in the 2011-12 season.
England batsman Kevin Pietersen has extended his contract with Surrey until the end of his international career. Pietersen, who first signed for the club on a one-year deal in 2011 following a loan spell in 2010, will play for the Brown Caps until he no longer has an ECB Central Contract.
Warwickshire and England seam-bowler Chris Woakes has signed a new two-year deal with the county which will see him remain with the club until at least the end of the 2014 season.
Kent have signed former Durham all-rounder Ben Harmsion on a contract of undisclosed length ahead of the 2012 season.
Middlesex wicket-keeper Adam Rossington and Hampshire seam bowler James Tomlinson have both signed contract extensions with their respective counties. Rossington, an 18 year-old who has represented England’s Under-19 side, has extended his existing contract by one year to the end of 2013, while Tomlinson has also signed until the end of the 2013 season.
Somerset have tentatively announced that they have secured the services of South African all-rounder Vernon Philander as their overseas player for the first two months of the 2012 season. Philander's availability is dependent on him not being selected to play in the Indian Premier League.
