Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria is to miss the Test series against South Africa in the United Arab Emirates after failing to gain clearance to enter the UAE.

"PCB did not give clearance to Kaneria so now I will meet the Test captain (Misbah-ul-Haq) and coach (Waqar Younis) to decide whether they need a replacement or not," chief selector Mohsin Khan told news agency AFP.

Kaneria had been named in the Test squad despite having been dropped during the tour of England and with Taufeeq Umar, Mohammad Yousuf, Mohammad Sami and Azhar Ali, was expected to join up with his team-mates who are already in Dubai for the One-Day International series against South Africa.

"I was ready to leave for Dubai but was suddenly told that I was not given clearance and that they (PCB official) will call me on Sunday and let me know the reason," Kaneria was quoted as saying by local media.

Kaneria has played 61 Tests for Pakistan, taking 261 wickets during that time.

Pakistan v South Africa 2010/11
Pakistan survived losing three second-innings wickets in quick order to frustrate South Africa and draw the second Test in Abu Dhabi, resulting in a drawn series. After being set a nominal 354 to win the match, they made a strong start to reach 66 without loss before South Africa's spinners struck to get them back in the game.
South Africa built a lead of 323 runs over Pakistan on day four of the second and final Test in Dubai as they closed on 173 for four in their second innings. That came after Pakistan avoided the follow-on by being dismissed for 434, a maiden Test half-century from Abdur Rehman helping them do so.
