Dates For Fifth Indian Premier League Season Revealed

The fifth season of the Indian Premier League has been scheduled to run between 4th April and 27th May 2012 and will feature 74 matches in 54 days.

The tournament will be the second with ten teams involved and is expected to run along similar lines with Chennai Super Kings defending their crown.

IPL Chairman Chirayu Amin said: "We are happy to confirm the opening and closing dates of IPL 2012, ten months in advance.

"The match-schedule will be announced soon. We have no doubt that the fifth season of IPL will be as, if not more, eventful and exciting than the previous ones."

The Chennai Super Kings also won the competition in 2010 while the other previous winners were the Rajasthan Royals (2008) and Deccan Chargers (2009).

In a humdinger of a match, Pakistan beat India by five wickets in the first Twenty20 International at Bangalore. Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik steered their side home, after the match see-sawed more than once at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first, something Indian skipper MS Dhoni said he would have done as well. For the visitors though, the decision didn't pay any dividends.

Andhra High Court Lifts Life Ban On Azharuddin

Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin has had his life ban from playing cricket lifted by a High Court in Andhra Pradesh. Azharuddin, now 49, played 99 Tests and 334 One-Day Internationals but was found guilty of match-fixing during an investigation in 2000, which also implicated team-mates Ajay Jadeja, Manoj Prabhakar and Ajay Sharma.

Ashwin Promoted To Grade A India Contract

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is the biggest beneficiary in the latest batch of contracts handed out by the BCCI to India's national cricketers. He has been promoted from a Grade B to a Grade A deal after cementing himself as India's leading spinner in all formats, while the man he has usurped in that role, Harbhajan Singh, has been demoted to a Grade B deal.
