David Miller to captain Kings XI Punjab in IPL

The Kings XI Punjab franchise of the Indian Premier League (IPL) have named South African batsman David Miller as the captain for the upcoming season of the Twenty20 league.

Miller, who signed with the Kings XI Punjab team in 2011 has so far played 47 matches in the league and has 1319 runs at an average of 42.54 with a century and eight fifties to his name.

Sanjay Bangar, the coach of the Kings XI franchise expressed his confidence in Miller’s abilities to fulfil his responsibility as the captain of the side.

“I have watched David grow as a player.

“He has displayed outstanding batting abilities and a cool temperament in many high-pressure situations.

“I am confident in his potential to lead the boys this season.” 

Prior to the recently concluded player auction, Kings XI Punjab had retained four overseas players - Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Johnson apart from Miller.

In the 2015 edition of the IPL, Miller was the highest run scorer for Kings XI Punjab with 357 runs from 13 matches at an average of 32.45 including two fifties.

Last week, Kings XI Punjab appointed flamboyant former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag as the mentor for the 2016 edition of the IPL.
