David Sales Steps Down As Northants. Captain For 2008

There will be a new name leading Northants out during the forthcoming season as today David Sales has decided to withdraw his name from consideration for Captaincy for the 2008 season. David Sales took the reigns in 2004 taking over from Mike Hussey and after four years feels that he would like to enjoy playing without the additional pressure that captaincy inevitably brings. David’s own form during this period however has been exceptional culminating in 2007 with 1384 first class runs at an average of over 55. He also surpassed 10,000 career first class runs during the season in which he was the second top scorer in Division 2 of the LV Championship. David said, “It was a difficult decision to make as I have enjoyed enormously my time as Captain, but I feel the time is right to provide the opportunity for the Club to choose someone else to have the privilege of leading the side. "Of course I will give whoever is selected my full support and I am looking forward to the new season and helping the club towards challenging in all competitions.” The Board of Northants Cricket will consider the appointment of Captain for the 2008 season at their next meeting. © Northamptonshire CCC
