Dean Elgar has seen off the likes of Colin Ingram and Ashwell Prince to be named as South Africa’s replacement for the injured JP Duminy for their ongoing tour of Australia.

The 25 year-old has played five One-Day Internationals already in 2012 and is seen as a like-for-like replacement for Duminy as he also bowls part-time spin - albeit of the left-arm variety.

The spare batsman in South Africa’s Test squad is Faf du Plessis, who is likely to start ahead of Elgar in the second Test and also bowls part-time spin.

Duminy was ruled out for six months with a ruptured Achilles’ tendon after suffering a freak accident during a warm-down session following the first day’s play at the Gabba.

South Africa Test squad: Graeme Smith (captain), Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, Dean Elgar, Faf du Plessis, Imran Tahir, Jacqus Kallis, Rory Kleinveldt, Morne Morkel, Alviro Petersen, Robin Peterson, Vernon Philander, Jacques Rudolph, Dale Steyn, Thami Tsolekile.
