University of Warwick head groundsman Charlie Yeomans has paid tribute to the consistent finish and reliability of the Dennis Razor Ultra 560 cricket square mower.
Yeomans has been looking after the university's cricket pitches for 25 years and he says that the Razor Ultra was the obvious choice when it came to buying a new cricket wicket mower.
"We can put any sports event on for anyone that asks," Yeoman said. "There is nothing that we can’t do. It’s important that we have the best turf maintenance machinery available because our students expect the best playing surface.
"I first saw the Razor Ultra at a dealer demonstration day a couple of years ago and was very impressed from the moment I saw it. I liked the weight at just 130kg and its ease-of-use and especially the tungsten tipped groomer which really takes care of lateral growth.
"Since we’ve been using it on our cricket wickets, it’s been superb and gives a very consistent finish. It has more blades on the cutting cylinder than our previous mower and does an excellent job at a faster speed."
Small wonder, seeing as the Razor has been developed specifically for use on cricket pitches, golf greens, tees and bowling greens.
It has a 560mm (22") cutting width and includes an 11-bladed cutting cylinder, ultra short wheelbase to cope with undulating surfaces, a tungsten-tipped groomer, compact handle design extra manoeuvrability, click height adjusters and stub-free transport wheels.
The cricket pitches at the university are closed in August to allow good growth for the following season before the Razor Ultra is brought in to maintain a high quality wicket.
"I will get ten years out of this machine, if not more," Yeomans added. "They are so well built and I see myself always using them.
"I’ve had brilliant service from Jason Briggs, the Area Sales Manager as well as Dennis. They are always helpful and extremely informative," he added.
