Derbyshire Add Katich To Squad For 2007 Season
Australian batsman Simon Katich has agreed terms with Derbyshire.
The 31-year-old superceeds fellow countryman James Hopes as the Division Two side's second overseas player.
``I am delighted to have been offered the chance to play for Derbyshire this season and didn't have to think twice about taking up the opportunity,'' said Katich, who has had spells with Durham and Hampshire but has dropped down the pecking order with Australia after their Ashes defeat 16 months ago.
``I have thoroughly enjoyed my previous spells in county cricket and I'm looking forward to helping Derbyshire continue the progress they made last season.''
Derbyshire's director of cricket Dave Houghton added: ``As soon as we knew Simon was potentially available he was our first choice.
``We tried to sign him 12 months ago but he wasn't available but he is exactly the sort of cricketer who can make a real impact for us.
``He is hugely experienced and has been part of the best team in world cricket for several years, that experience and mentality will be a great benefit to our squad in addition to the runs he will bring to the side.''
