Derbyshire 165-8 (Madsen 42) beat
Yorkshire 162-7 (Lyth 68) by three runs
Natwest T20 Blast, North Group, Chesterfield
Derbyshire managed to held their nerve in a thrilling three run victory in the Natwest T20 Blast North Group clash in Chesterfield over Yorkshire as they maintain their position at the top with two victories from as many games.
Derbyshire won the toss and decided to bat first. Ben Slater (14), Billy Godleman (5) and Luis Reece (9) and Gary Wilson (10) all fell early but Wayne Madsen (42) kept their hopes alive along with a 10-ball cameo from Matt Henry (28) which had three sixes and a boundary in it.
Madsen missed out on a half century but Daryn Smit (30 not out) provided the late flourish to take Derbyshire to 165 for eight in the 20 overs.
Despite, Yorkshire losing Tom Kohler-Cadmore (0) early, Adam Lyth (68) and David Willey (42) set the chase well with a 55 run stand for the second wicket.
Imran Tahir (3-48) applied the brakes during the middle phase with the wickets of Willey, Peter Handscomb (15) and Jack Leaning (4) but Lyth went past another fifty+ score. Yorkshire needed 23 runs off the final two overs, but Hardus Viljoen (2-33) bowled a brilliant five run penultimate over.
Despite, Tim Bresnan's (24) 14-ball cameo, Yorkshire could manage only 162 for seven with Madsen bagging the player of the match award.
