Derbyshire have announced their Academy intake for the 2011 winter and 2012 summer seasons. It includes nine players from the previous year’s intake, the most notable being that of England Under-19 international Peter Burgoyne.
The eleven players will spend the winter working on their skills and fitness, according to a statement on the club’s website, before spending the summer playing cricket under the Derbyshire County Cricket Club banner. Six of the players are from the county’s own youth programme, while four come from Staffordshire’s and one from Cheshire’s.
Previous graduates from the Academy include Tom Knight, Dan Redfern, Tom Poynton, Ross Whiteley and Paul Borrington – all of whom have recently signed full-time professional contracts with the club.
Head of Development Howard Dytham said of the news, “The fact that nine of the 11 players were involved last year shows the good work that goes on at the Academy and is testament to the hard work of the players.”
