England Disability Cricket Squad Raising Money For The Royal British Legion

On Sunday 7th August, gates open at 12 noon, the England Disability team will be playing the Army Development squad at the historic ground of Bournville Cricket Club.

Organised by the Bill Lloyd Memorial Trust and raising money for The Royal British Legion, the match features the recently formed National Squad for Cricketers with Physical Disabilities and the Army Development team, a cross section of experience and ability from recently injured servicemen as well as military staff from the Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court.

Local celebrity Adrian Goldberg is the match day presenter and there will be personal appearances from a host of cricket stars including Jonathan Trott, Ian Bell and Mike Gatting.   Other activities include a display stand from The Royal British Legion, the ECB Crickey Roadshow and the Warwickshire Disability Youth Squad who will be playing Kwik Cricket during a break in the game.  There will be food and face painting and best of all a great afternoon of cricket.

With fabulous prizes in the raffle and items up for grabs in the auction the day should be a great success in raising much needed funds for The Royal British Legion and others. The Legion currently spends around £1.4 million a week supporting our service men and women and their dependants through a wide range of services including grants for those in need, the provision of care, pensions and benefits advice, reskilling and job retraining.

Russell Thompson, Director of National Events and Fundraising at The Legion said, "We are extremely grateful to these amazing guys for supporting The Royal British Legion through this event.  We are expecting to see some amazing cricket at Bournville, we know that everyone involved has put in a considerable amount of training and effort for them to be playing in the national squad. The fundraising that they are doing for The Royal British Legion will make a real difference to the lives of those we support, helping us considerably in continuing to provide the social, emotional and financial care that is central to our work."

2011 is the 90th Anniversary of The Royal British Legion and your support is needed now more than ever.   You can support The Legion on 7th August at Bournville and next event, the Coventry Cathedral Concert on 17th September, tickets available from the Cathedral Visitor Centre or on T: 024 7652 1210.
