West Zone had to break the world record for a first-class run chase to beat South Zone, and they did so, reaching 541 for seven to win an epic match by three wickets. Yusuf Pathan led them home with a scintillating 210 not out in 190 balls, with 19 fours and ten sixes as they only lost the wicket of Pinal Shah (16 in 116 balls) on the final day, Ramesh Powar accompanying Pathan home with an unbeaten 18 in 28 deliveries.
Auckland and Canterbury played out a thrilling tie at Colin Maiden Park. Canterbury posted 287 for seven with Michael Papps blasting 122 and in reply Auckland were bowled out for the same score. Scott Styris made 71 and Ravi Bopara hit 53 before three wickets apiece from Shane Bond and Chris Martin brought the game down to the wire, Michael Bates run out attempting the winning runs from the final ball.
Kane Williamson scored 77 to help set up a two-wicket win for Northern Districts over Central Districts. They got home with three balls to spare having been set 241 to win thanks to Mathew Sinclair's 62 before Central were bowled out for 240.
