Durham have announced that they have extended the contracts of Graham Onions and Ruel Brathwaite to the end of the 2015 and 2013 seasons respectively.
Onions took 50 wickets at 27 apiece in first-class cricket last season after returning from a career-threatening injury and said of his new contract, “After missing last season due to injury I am delighted with the way this season has gone. I have had an amazing amount of support from my team mates and the backroom staff at Durham.
“I am really pleased to sign a new contract with the club I love and look forward to winning trophies in the years to come.”
Brathwaite, who was originally signed on a one-year contract after impressing during a trial period at the end of the 2010 season, said of his new two-year deal, “I have really enjoyed my first season at Durham – it has been a great environment for me to be in and I’m committed to continuing to develop so I can be competing for a regular first team place in 2012.”
The 26 year-old Barbadian took 26 first-class wickets in 2011 at an average of 25 including two five-wicket hauls.
Head Coach Geoff Cook added, “It’s been great to watch Graham getting back to his best. He has contributed massively to the team taking fifty wickets in just 11 Championship appearances which demonstrates just how determined he is to deliver the standard of bowling that has seen him excel on the county circuit and on the world stage.
“Ruel has been a great addition to the squad and continues to impress me with his eagerness to keep moving forward to progress his game.”
