West Indies have chosen the forthcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe as an opportunity to rest some of their senior players. Captain Darren Sammy has been left out of the 13-man squad for the first two matches in Grenada, while the selectors have granted Chris Gayle permission to miss all three matches at his request. Dwayne Bravo will skipper the side in Sammy’s absence.

Other changes from the squad that were whitewashed by Australia earlier this month include the return of Denesh Ramdin behind the stumps at the expense of Devon Thomas, and a recall for spinner Veerasammy Permaul. Besides Gayle, Sammy and Thomas, promising fast-bowler Jason Holder has been omitted, while Ramnaresh Sarwan has retained his place despite a disappointing comeback series.

The first ODI against Zimbabwe is on 22nd February at the Grenada National Stadium, with the second and third matches taking place at the same venue on 24th and 26th February. There will then be two Twenty20 Internationals and two Test matches.

ODI squad: Dwayne Bravo (captain), Tino Best, Darren Bravo, Johnson Charles, Narsingh Deonarine, Sunil Narine, Veerasammy Permaul, Kieron Pollard, Kieran Powell, Denesh Ramdin (wicket-keeper), Kemar Roach, Andre Russell, Ramnaresh Sarwan.
