The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that Mark Benson is to return to county cricket and take his place as one of 24 officials on the ECB Full List for the 2010 season.

He announced his retirement from the ICC Elite Panel of International umpires last week, citing ill health, and he will return to domestic cricket after four years with the ICC. He has umpired 111 first-class matches during his umpiring career, which began in 2000 following his retirement from playing with Kent and England.

“We are delighted to welcome Mark back onto the Full List of umpires with immediate effect," ECB Chief Executive David Collier said.

"Mark is a very talented umpire who is widely respected throughout the game and everyone within County cricket will look forward to working with him again over the coming season.”

ECB Umpires Manager, Chris Kelly added: “I am sure Mark will be warmly welcomed back into the County game by his fellow umpires and players. Our County game will be the richer for having an umpire of his calibre and experience in the middle and we wish him well for 2010.”
