Opening batsman Ed Cowan has been added to Australia's contracted list of players for the 2012/13 season after playing enough matches to earn an upgrade.

Cowan, 30, has played 10 Tests since making his debut last season, scoring one century and four half-centuries, including 53 during the recent third Test against South Africa in Perth.

Having played three Tests since July, he qualifies to join the list of contracted players, following George Bailey and Glenn Maxwell, who earned their places on the list through playing sufficient limited overs internationals.
