Twenty20 International, Loughborough
Scorecard

England Women comprehensively beat Ireland Women by 51 runs in a Twenty20 International in Loughborough as they began preparations for their summer.

Captain Charlotte Edwards led by example in scoring 72 not out in 51 balls as England posted 136 for four before Ireland could reach only 85 for five in reply.

Edwards' innings included eight fours and she was given support by Sarah Taylor (11) and Arran Brindle (29) as four Irish bowlers picked up a wicket apiece - Kim Garth, Laura Cullen, Isobel Joyce and Laura Delany.

In reply, Ireland's batting found England's bowling hard to handle, aside from Claire Shillington, who made 29, and opening partner Cecelia Joyce, who scored 16.

Thereafter, no player could reach double figures, Danielle Wyatt taking two for 12, Laura Marsh one for 10 and Holly Colvin one for 12.

Ireland will play India tomorrow (24th June) while England continue preparing to meet India by playing the England Academy.

India made a slow start to the tour after they were beaten by six wickets by the England Academy side.
