The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have confirmed that England all-rounder Tim Bresnan has undergone an elbow operation.
He will, however, be fit for the Test series against Pakistan, which gets underway in January and will see England defend their number one ICC ranking in the United Arab Emirates.
The operation removed a bone fragment from the back of his elbow that was diagnosed following the recent One-Day International series in India.
Bresnan, who played a key part in England's rise to the top of the standings by being involved in the 3-1 Ashes win in Australia last winter and the 4-0 series win over India at home, has played ten Tests, 57 One-Day Internationals and 20 Twenty20 Internationals.
His recovery will be jointly managed by medical staff at the ECB and his county Yorkshire.
