England have called up Lancashire wicket-keeper Jos Buttler as cover for Matthew Prior ahead of the first Test against India at Trent Bridge.

Prior has reported tightness in his right thigh following Monday's training at Trent Bridge.

He will continue to be assessed ahead of Wednesday's start to the five-match series.

Although Buttler, who moved from Somerset to Lancashire for the start of this season, has become an integral part of England's limited overs sides, he has yet to play a Test.

Some called for his inclusion ahead of Prior against Sri Lanka, but England opted to stick with the experience of the Sussex man.

However, Buttler's call-up here shows that he is considered as Prior's understudy in the longest format of the game.

That is despite Buttler himself admitting that he needs to work on his glovework in first-class cricket.
