The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has called up Lancashire pace bowler Kate Cross following injuries in Australia to Claire Taylor and Beth Morgan.
Cross earns her call-up on the back of strong performances for the Academy last year and she is due to join up with the squad in time for the opening Twenty20 International in Adelaide on 12th January.
“I’m really looking forward to joining the squad out in Australia, playing over there for your country is something you always dream about," Cross said.
“The call up came as a bit of a surprise, but it’s a fantastic opportunity and breaking into the England women’s squad is something I have been working hard towards over the last 18 months.
“I hope to gain experience from touring with some of the senior players and if I get the opportunity to play I will certainly make the most of it.”
In addition to losing key players Taylor and Morgan, Yorkshire fast bowler Katherine Brunt was also ruled out of the third One-Day International due to injury.
England lost the ODI series 2-1 and play Australia in five T20 matches ahead of the one-off Ashes Test, which begins on 22nd January in Sydney.
