Number 10 batsman Josh Shaw hit the winning runs as England beat Australia by one wicket to clinch third place at the ICC Under-19 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Ben Duckett had earlier scored a fine 100 in 109 balls and England eventually reached their target of 247 with two balls to spare.

Ben McDermott (56), Matthew Short (41) and Sean Willis (31) made the runs for Australia as they posted 246 for seven while for England, Ed Barnard took three wickets and Will Rhodes two.

In reply, Duckett led England's charge but they were staring at defeat when they slipped to 213 for nine.

However, last-wicket pair Shaw (12 not out) and Matthew Fisher (20 not out in 12 balls) put on an unbroken 34 runs in 21 deliveries to see England home.

Pakistan meet South Africa in the final tomorrow.
