Sporting legends Sir Ian Botham and Gavin Hastings are putting their support behind the England cricket team and the British & Irish Lions and back both to taste victory this summer when they take on arch nemesis Australia during the Lions Tour and the Ashes cricket series.
The two iconic sportsmen were had no hesitation in putting their money on a series win for England in the Ashes and for the Lions down under.
Former England captain and hero of England's 1981 series win Botham said: "England will win and I expect them to win in style.
"If it’s a British summer then we have a chance of a whitewash. There are promising signs with competition for places in the bowlers and batting. If it was a game of poker and you were England, you’d be confident you held the better hand.”
Hastings, who captained the Lions in 1993, added: "I expect the Lions to go 1-0 up after battering and bruising the Aussies. The Aussie flair will keep them in it to level at 1-1 but we’ll sneak the final Test to take it 2-1."
Former Wimbledon champion, Goran Ivanisevic, also backed reigning US Open tennis champion Andrew Murray to win Wimbledon within the next three years.
Ivanisevic said "My tip for Wimbledon has got to be Murray. This could very well be his year, as long as he gets over his injury problems. If it isn’t, I still definitely back him to win it within the next three years."
The three sporting giants were joined by TV presenter Steve Rider at Lord’s Cricket Ground for the launch of the Unibet Summer of Sport, an event to mark the unveiling of Unibet’s new UK sportsbook.
Unibet, one of the leading gaming operators, is offering odds of 12/1 at www.unibet.co.uk on the three predictions made by Botham, Hastings and Ivanisevic.
