Essex have signed South African fast bowler Lonwabo Tsotsobe as their overseas player and he is expected to join up with the squad ahead of their Championship game with Middlesex next week.
Tsotsobe has played five Tests, 20 One-Day Internationals and five Twenty20 Internationals for the Proteas, helping them reach the quarter-finals of the 2011 World Cup.
He will add variety to the Essex bowling attack as a left-armer and head coach Paul Grayson is looking forward to working with him.
"Obviously we are delighted to get him in. He has come highly recommended by people we know, as a left armer he offers variation and we hope he will make a big impact for the start of season," he said.
"We will have Tsotsobe up until the start of the Twenty20 season at which time we will welcome Scott Styris into the squad for the T20 campaign."
Talking to essexcricket.org, Tsotsobe added: "I am thrilled to be joining up with Essex and hope I can make a significant contribution for the county with the ball. As this is my first experience of county cricket, I obviously can’t wait to get started and I look forward to playing a part in regaining our Division I status."
Bookmakers make Essex 10/3 favourites to win the LV= County Championship Division Two.
