Essex head coach Paul Grayson has confirmed that club captain Mark Pettini is to take a break from the game, while James Foster continues to lead the side in the Friends Provident t20.
"Mark (Pettini) and myself had a discussion on Saturday following the Glamorgan game. Mark has been under an immense amount of pressure and needs a short break from the game," Grayson told the club's website (www.essexcricket.org.uk).
"There has obviously been a few issues on and off the field. In addition we have been faced with a hectic cricket schedule in the opening months of the season.
"Mark will take a break for 7-10 days, after that we will discuss the situation. I am confident Mark will return and be back fit and fresh and back to his best form. James (Foster) will be captain for the remainder of the 2010 Twenty20 campaign."
Essex currently sit in eighth place in the South Group having won just once in four attempts.
