Essex will tour Barbados from 14th 25th March for pre-season preparations before their 2011 campaign. The visit will present a platform for the squad to meet up and prepare physically and mentally for the season ahead of their opening Championship match against Kent at Chelmsford on 8th April.
Essex First Team Head Coach, Paul Grayson, expressed the importance of the tour ahead of the 2011 season. “The tour last year was a huge success and proved to be excellent preparation for the following 2010 season, so having another again this year was important. Travelling to Barbados will prove to be valuable for our pre-season because it gives us a head start over other sides for 2011.”
“We all know finances at the Club are tight at the current time, so having Smile-Caribbean sponsoring the tour and making such a large contribution to the funding is a massive boost to our pre-season preparations,” Grayson said.
