Essex Eagles News Ahead Of Derbyshire Match
Academy player Adam Wheater is in the senior squad for the first time after impressing for the 2nd XI in recent weeks.
The 17-year-old wicketkeeper/batsman replaces Varun Chopra from the squad for Sunday’s NatWest Pro40 match against Sussex Sharks at Colchester. Chopra will play for the 2nd XI in their Second Eleven Championship fixture against Kent at Beckenham this week.
Commenting on Wheater’s selection, Academy Director and 2nd XI Coach John Childs told the Essex CCC website (www.essexcricket.org.uk):
“Adam has improved quite a lot over the last eight to nine months since he was part of the ECB national skills set over the winter. He found that a real eye-opener in understanding the commitment required to take his game forward.
“Adam has already received recognition from the England Under-18s in a match against Pakistan Under-19s earlier in the season and has had the gloves for the last four to five games in the 2nd XI – performing adequately with bat and gloves. He deserves his opportunity with the first-team.”
Play is scheduled to get underway at 7.00pm.
Adult tickets are priced at £18 and junior tickets at £9. Gates open for this game at 4pm.
