Essex Eagles Team News Ahead Of Derbyshire Clash

Essex Eagles have named a 13-man squad for their Twenty20 Floodlit Cup match against Derbyshire Phantoms at Derby today (Tuesday, August 14).

Jahid Ahmed and Tim Phillips have been added to the XI on duty at Garon Park, Southend in Sunday’s NatWest Pro40 match with Warwickshire Bears.

Phillips has been added strictly as batting cover because his shoulder injury is preventing him from bowling at present.

Tom Westley is unavailable due to his involvement with the England Under-19s squad in their one-day series with Pakistan (which gets underway at Shenley on August 15).

Alastair Cook is rested following his involvement with England in the third Test at the Brit Oval.

Ravinder Bopara will be playing in his penultimate match for Essex before joining up with England for one-day duty. The all-rounder is looking forward to featuring in the Twenty20 Floodlit Cup again after a successful participation in 2006 when his 187 runs @ 93.50 and four wickets @ 16.75 played a major part in the Eagles winning last year’s tournament.

Bopara told the Essex CCC website:

“The Twenty20 Floodlit Cup changed the way I played in Twenty20 cricket. I found a way to approach it during that competition so I’m looking forward to it again. It’s great fun and if I get the opportunity to make an impression early on in the innings then I’ll take it with both hands.”

Play is scheduled to get underway at 7pm at Derby and a contingency of an extra hour of play is in place without losing overs should time be lost in the event of the sun causing problems with visibility for the players.

Essex Eagles squad to play Derbyshire Phantoms in the Twenty20 Floodlit Cup at the County Ground, Derby on Tuesday August 14, 7.00pm start:

Mark Pettini, Varun Chopra, Ravinder Bopara, Grant Flower, James Foster, Ryan ten Doeschate, James Middlebrook, Andy Bichel, Graham Napier, Tony Palladino, Danish Kaneria, Jahid Ahmed, Tim Phillips.
