Essex Name Squad For Crucial Somerset Clash
Essex Eagles have named a 12-man squad for their crucial Friends Provident Trophy match against Somerset Sabres at The Ford County Ground on Wednesday.
Australian fast bowler Andy Bichel comes in for his first appearance of the season as he begins his second spell with the County, replacing Andre Nel.
Tim Phillips is also added to the remaining ten on duty against Sussex Sharks last Sunday.
Mark Pettini continues to deputise for knee-injury victim Ronnie Irani as Captain.
Pettini told the Essex CCC website: “This is a big game in our season so everyone is up for it. I’m starting to get into the captaincy role now in the absence of Ronnie. It’s been a busy couple of weeks so I’m easing my way in now.”
The third-placed Eagles enter the match needing to win to maintain their hopes of qualifying for the semi-final stage by virtue of finishing in the top two.
With rain also threatening to come into the equation a whole host of permutations exists in the South Conference going into the final round of games. However a win for Essex in conjunction with Hampshire and Kent failing to win their final matches against Surrey and Gloucestershire respectively would see the Eagles finish top.
Tie-breakers for teams finishing on equal points in the same group are:
(a) Most wins in Group Matches.
(b) If still equal, the team with the higher net run rate in the Group Matches will be placed in the higher position.
(c) If still equal, the team with the higher number of wickets taken per balls bowled in the Group Matches in which results were achieved will be placed in the higher position.
(d) In the event that teams cannot be separated by (a) to (c) above, this will be done by drawing lots.
For the avoidance of doubt, the points scored in the matches between those teams that finish on equal points is not one of the tie-breakers.
Tickets for Wednesday’s game at Chelmsford will be on sale to the general public on the day for £15 adults and £7.50 juniors.
