Essex Name Squad For Derbyshire Match

Essex have named a 12-man squad for their LV County Championship match against Derbyshire at Derby, starting on Thursday (August 30). Eighteen-year-old batsman Tom Westley returns to the four-day side after featuring for England Under-19s recently in their series with Pakistan. Westley replaces Varun Chopra, who is playing for the 2nd XI in their Second Eleven Championship match against Kent at Beckenham this week (scoring 84 in the first innings). Essex First-Team Coach Paul Grayson told the Essex CCC website: “Varun is a massive part of our plans for the future but he’s been struggling for runs lately so we felt it was time to freshen up the top order. “It’s no disgrace to be left out, we’ve all gone through it, and I’m sure it will benefit him in the long-term.” Essex squad to play Derbyshire in the LV County Championship match at Derby (Thursday August 30 to Sunday September 2): Mark Pettini, Grant Flower, Tom Westley, Tim Phillips, James Foster, Ryan ten Doeschate, James Middlebrook, Andy Bichel, Alex Tudor, Danish Kaneria, Tony Palladino, Graham Napier Milestones Andy Bichel took his 750th first-class wicket in the last LV County Championship match against Leicestershire at Colchester. Forthcoming milestones: James Middlebrook: 46 catches (for Essex) Tim Phillips: 926 runs (First-class) Ryan ten Doeschate: 1966 runs (First-class) © Essex CCC
