Essex Name Squad To Face Surrey In Twenty20 Cup
On-loan Martin Saggers (available again after being ineligible to play against his ‘home’ county Kent) and Varun Chopra are added to the side on duty in last Saturday’s fixture at Canterbury.
Ravinder Bopara is still unavailable with a thigh injury while Alastair Cook is away with England on international duty.
On his fitness, Bopara gave the Essex CCC website (www.essexcricket.org.uk) the following update:
“I had a run-out today (Wednesday) but the Physio reckons that it’s a little bit too early for me to come back. If I risked it now and made it worse I could end up being out for six weeks so I’ll have to be patient. Apart from that I’m feeling top drawer.”
Meanwhile, Captain Mark Pettini is looking forward to seeing his side bounce back from their weekend defeat against Kent Spitfires in back-to-back home matches against Surrey Brown Caps and Kent:
He told the Essex CCC website: “We’ve got two home games coming up on Thursday and Friday and we know how good we are – especially with our crowd – so hopefully we can pick up two wins. Saturday’s defeat against Kent was a slight setback but five-over games are a bit of a lottery so it’s one of those games you just put behind you and move on.
“Surrey are a top team and have done well in this competition but we have nothing to fear. We beat them last season in the Twenty20 Cup and we’ll be looking to do it again.”
The Prospects of Play line (08718 716166) will be updated from 2pm on the day ahead of the scheduled 7pm start.
You can also check out the ‘Forums’ and ECCC Diary sections of the ECCC website at www.essexcricket.org.uk for updates before and during the match.
