Essex News Ahead Of Surrey Clash

Essex Eagles have named a 13-man squad for their Friends Provident Trophy match against Surrey Brown Caps at Whitgift School on Sunday.

Alastair Cook has been made available by the ECB to make a welcome return for the Eagles in a crucial match in the South Conference. The visitors would move within one point of the Brown Caps, who presently occupy top spot, with a victory.

Cook told the Essex CCC website (www.essexcricket.org.uk):

“This is a must-win game for us and it will be good to be back with the lads. Hopefully we can pick up a win to drive us on to get into the top two (and qualification for the semi-finals).

“I’m happy with the way I’ve been hitting the ball so if I keep working hard I’ll be able to take that form to Whitgift and on to the next Test match at Old Trafford.”

Captain Ronnie Irani and Andre Nel will test their fitness on knee and neck injuries respectively ahead of the game.

Play is scheduled to get underway at 10.45am and tickets cost £12 for adults and £6 for Under-16’s
