Essex have completed their seventh County Championship Division One title after they maintained their unbeaten streak this season.

Chris Silverwood's side have claimed 209 points from the 12 games in which they registered eight victories, including an innings victory against Warwickshire in the recent most clash.

Their title triumph was put on wait on Thursday but Lancashire's seven wicket defeat to Somerset ensured the Chelmsford unit stretched their lead at the top to 56 points.

In the process, they became only the second team to have won the Division One title immediately after their promotion from Division Two that came in the previous season.

This was also Essex's first Division One title in 25 years after previously winning in 1979, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1991, 1992.
