Essex have signed experienced New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris as an overseas player for their Friends Provident t20 campaign, which begins on 2nd June, although Styris will not be available until 10th June.

Styris, 34, has played 29 Tests, 165 One-Day Internationals and 27 Twenty20 Internationals for his country and has previous county cricket experience with Middlesex and Durham.

“We are obviously delighted to secure the services of Scott. He is a vastly experienced cricketer and that is why we have signed him. He has shown good form for New Zealand and has the experience of the World Cup to offer," Essex Head Coach Paul Grayson commented.

"Scott is a general all-rounder and a good T20 player and we hope he will make a big impact on the side. As a committed cricketer he knows how to play the game and is a canny one day player, he could well prove to be a very astute signing for Essex."

Styris, an aggressive right-handed batsman and right-arm medium bowler, has scored eight half-centuries in all Twenty20 cricket and taken 63 wickets with an economy rate of 7.57.
