Ex-Wicket-Keeper Rises To Dragon's Team Coach
Glamorgan's former wicketkeeper-batsman Adrian Shaw has been promoted to first team coach as part of a re-structuring of their staff.
Shaw, previously in control of the 2nd XI, will inherit many of the duties which fell to director of cricket John Derrick and will work alongside captain David Hemp. Ex-Glamorgan seamer Steve Watkin is in line to become the county's new performance director.
Chief executive Mike Fatkin explained on his club's website, www.glamorgancricket.com: ``We have spent a lot of time looking at the coaching structure.
``We've had a couple of disappointing seasons, and it was felt that some changes were necessary.
``Adrian will bring a fresh energy to the coaching of the first XI, working alongside David Hemp, and we are keen to develop Steve Watkin's role at the club so that he is responsible for wider performance matters and also in doing more work with the first-team squad.''
Glamorgan are keen to find a new coaching challenge for former all-rounder Derrick who helped his club to limited-overs silverware in 2002 and 2004 but has since overseen two seasons of struggle - particularly in the county championship.
``We are very keen to ensure that John Derrick's talents as a coach are not lost to the game in Wales and we are continuing our discussions with him about potential alternative roles,'' added Fatkin.
``We will make an announcement on that when those discussions have been concluded.''
