Former England and Lancashire batsman Neil Fairbrother will open Irlam Steel Recreation and Social Club’s new £450,000 pavilion on Friday 20th April.

Irlam Cricket Club’s two senior teams and thriving junior section will share the fantastic new fully accessible changing rooms and social areas with Irlam Steel’s football, bowling and indoor sports clubs, who are all based on the Liverpool road site.

The development has been made possible through a £121,000 grant award from the England and Wales Cricket Board, £250,000 from Irlam based charity The Hamilton Davies Trust, with the remainder of the costs being met by the Irlam Steel Recreation and Social Club.

ECB National Funding and Facilities Manager Bruce Cruse said: “The ECB are very pleased to support and invest in this worthy project.  This new facility will be welcomed by experienced and junior cricketers and will also benefit the football club, other sports and all visiting teams.  I am confident that as the investment matures the club will go from strength to strength and the facility will benefit the whole community in the long term future.”

Irlam Cricket Club Chairman Colin Rook said: “We are delighted with our new pavilion and look forward to welcoming the local community into the club. The facility will provide a secure future for the junior section and offer people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to play cricket in Irlam.  Providing a safe and friendly environment for players and visitors is a major focus for us as we look to build on our existing partnerships with local schools, colleges and universities.”

The official opening will take place at 1200 noon on Friday 20th April at Irlam Steel Recreation and Social Club, Liverpool Road, Manchester, M44 6AJ.
