Fancy Dress Fever Hits Edgbaston

Edgbaston is inviting all those attending the Saturday of the Test to come along and take part in a record attempt for the most people in fancy dress in a UK Sports Venue.

With current sales for the 3rd npower Test at Edgbaston now at 90,000, the Birmingham venue has a worldwide reputation for its great cricketing and entertainment atmosphere. And this time Edgbaston is going one stage further in a bid to get into the record books and, at the same time, offer spectators the opportunity to win a memorable prize.

On Saturday 13th August, the 4th day of the 3rd npower Test Match between England and India, Edgbaston is inviting all those attending the game that day to come along and take part in a record attempt for the most people in fancy dress in a UK Sports Venue.

As well as being great fun and enhancing the party atmosphere, the attempt is being made as part of the celebrations to recognise the new development at Edgbaston which will see outstanding new facilities at the stadium, as well as increasing the ground capacity from 21,000 to 25,000 spectators, which makes the world record attempt even more attractive.

All types of fancy dress are expected throughout the Test Match from doctors and nurses, to judges, superheroes and the A Team’s Mr T. In fact you name it people wear it.

James McLaughlin, Commercial Director at Edgbaston, said: "Although there have been fancy dress festivals, we are not aware of an official attempt to hold this record so this may well be a first. Our aim is 5,000 but there’s nothing to stop everyone getting dressed up for the occasion and celebrate the first Saturday of the new bigger better Edgbaston in real style!"

Test series sponsor npower has long been a supporter of fancy dress, and has held a best dressed competition on the Saturday of npower Test Matches since 2000.

Sponsorship PR Manager Sue Heritage said: "npower has always celebrated the fun of Fancy Dress, and we're never ceased to be amazed and amused by the variety of outfits on display at a cricket match! Edgbaston has always been the traditional home of fancy dress and we can't wait to see the outfits on Saturday for the world record attempt. Go Edgbaston - you can do it!"

The fancy dress competition will be once again judged by former England Captain Mike Gatting, where the best fancy dress group will be rewarded with Life Time Free Entry to Test Matches at Edgbaston.
