Yorkshire have confirmed that Paul Farbrace has been given permission to talk to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) as they search for a new head coach.

Last month, SLC announced they had narrowed down the applicants for the job to a shortlist of two - Marvan Atapattu and Mark Davies, who were set to be invited for a second interview.

However, Farbrace, who served as Sri Lanka's assistant coach when Trevor Bayliss held the head coach role between 2007 and 2009, has emerged as a third candidate for the job.

After leaving Sri Lanka he became head coach at Kent for the 2010 season before moving to Yorkshire, where he currently looks after the second team, in 2012.

Graham Ford will be standing down as Sri Lanka coach in January.
