While Farningham's first XI were beaten this week and the second XI won by default again, the Under 15s finished on top of their league with a perfect record.
Let's start with the 1st XI who made the short trip to Underriver. In our last meeting their opening bowler scythed down our top order before Dan and George almost saved us.
This time he was a little less effective but a damp but drying pitch misbehaved early and it seemed like the toss was crucial. Farningham lost regular wickets as has been the theme this year with Graham Freedman doggedly sticking around for a patient 39.
Some luck also went against us and we were struggling on 90 odd for six. However, a good bit of tail wagging got FCC up to a very dependable 200 and we were right back in the game.
Batting had now become easier as the pitch dried and on a small ground Underriver got off to a good start and were up with the run rate. Only Peter bowled with any consistency and accuracy and Underriver began to run away with the chase. Underriver won at a canter in the end in the 31st over with the loss of two wickets.
The 2nd XI won by default again! For the third week running the opposition have not been able to muster a side.
On Sunday morning the U15s played at Horton Way in lovely sunshine safe in the knowledge that they had already won the league and the pressure was off.
Matt Bowles won the toss and put the visitors in. Some uncharacteristically loose bowling combined with some good catching meant that Old Wilsonians scored at a good rate but lost regular wickets.
The pick of the bowlers were Jamie Weaver with three for 19 and Matt Ward with two for 10 as they posted 151 all out.
FCC got off to a good start with young Tomos Owen partnering Matt Ward, Tomos falling for 10 from a double bouncer! Matt went on to score a tidy 50 not out from 38 balls and he was then followed by Matt Bowles who also scored a brisk 30 before being caught on the boundary.
Ryan Maddox then saw the home team home in the 20th over with a boundary to also go to his 50. They finished the league season with a 100 per cent record and top of the league.
On Sunday afternoon another youthful team took to the field in hot conditions. Matt Ward and George Harris opened the bowling and bowled neatly, with the former picking up two wickets. With another six bowlers, everyone made a contribution and the wickets were shared around as Wealdstone Corinthians posted 152 all out.
A superb diving catch from Paul Fletcher was one of the highlights, as was the long awaited return of Dave Ward to Horton Way saw him pick up the last wicket of the innings.
The highlight of the day though came in the FCC reply as U15 captain Matt Bowles scored 54 and ably supported by Matt Ward (28) saw the team to within touching distance.
FCC nearly faltered at the end but, the experience of Colin Hucker and Dave Ward saw the game out to win by one wicket. A big congratulations to Matt Bowles on his maiden senior 50 following on from his great form this season with the U15s.
