Flooding Puts Paid To New Road Twenty20 Match

New Road, home of county side Worcestershire, has flooded, meaning they have been forced to abandon their Twenty20 Cup game against Warwickshire, scheduled for tomorrow.

Warwickshire currently lie top of the Mid/West/Wales Division while Worcestershire are in fifth place, with only a point to their name and were keen to play the game, although under current ECB regulations, were unable to find a suitable alternative venue and had to abandon the game.

The ECB responded by indicating in a statement that regulations concerning ground changes could be looked at for the 2008 season:

"Regrettably no other venue within the County with the facilities to stage the Twenty20 match could be identified in spite of the very best efforts of the home club.

"ECB has indicated that it wishes to consider changes to regulations which could provide increased options for the 2008 season but recognises that the weather conditions experienced in June have been exceptional."
