Who do you guys think are the 10 best pacers the world have ever seen.

My 10 are

Holding, Garner, Akram, W.Younis, Mcgrath, A.roberts, M.Marshall, Ntini, Ambrose, Walsh

In troubled times, being philosophical helps a great deal, it helps you to remain sane and not do any further damage.

flintoff? disagree with that

michael holding, malcolm marshall, richard hadlee, alan donald, glen mcgrath, courtney walsh, curtley ambrose, waqar younis, dennis lillee, fred trueman

Ashley Giles took three good wickets, outbowling Shane Warne who matched him in the scorebook, but not on the field

Yes...I am with skip_eng there.....Flintoff one of the greatest fast bowlers ever??????? I don't think so. He is probably one of the greatest all-rounders ever...but not fast bowler. Is he even a genuine "fast bowler" isn't he more of a medium pacer (excuse me if I am wrong I don't really know)?

Unfortunately I am not old enough to know about all of the greats, but my faves are Akram, Younis and Akhtar.  Aswell as Ambrose...

Out of all the great fast bowlers, my favourite would have to be Younnis.

Perhaps a better (easier) question would be: who are the 10 best bowlers each person has seen? Its hard to comment about players before our time. Therefore I'm going to restrict my list to fast bowlers I've seen since I started watching cricket (late 70's).

My Top 10 list is (in no particular order):

Hadlee, Lillee, McGrath, Garner, Holding, Roberts, Marshall, Ambrose, Younis, Akram and Donald.

Crap!...thats 11 (my maths is bad....).

I dont know who to scrap...but if I had to pick the best 2, I would probably go with Hadlee and Garner.

Gambler is quite correct. All these "best ever" threads are daft since none of us has seen enough of the older generation to be able to say with any assurance, not least on a forum like this where so many of the posters are younger and have only seen cricket in the last few years.

So on that basis, the best I have seen, in no particular order apart from the first two.

Malcolm Marshall
Denis Lillee
Wasim Akram
Michael Holding
Colin Croft
Richard Hadlee
Imran Khan
Ian Botham
Joel Garner
Glenn McGrath

Bubbling under;

Mike Proctor
Curtley Ambrose
Safraz Nawaz
Bob Willis
Alan Donald

shoaib is no where near the list of greats. he isn't even great in this era. fair enough he is pacy, but he doesnt often get it right. pakistan have had some greats such as younis and akram, but shoaib no.

if shoaib can not be in the all time top ten  ( which i agree with) so cant ntini, lee, flintoff, these are in same category.

cmon shoaib has played 43 tests and has missed 37 of them so a fast bowler also has to maintain fitness levels and shoaibs is POOR so you see ntini has taken 270 odd test wickets in 60 odd matches

I have to laugh at some of these choices , Ntini , you just have to be kidding!!

I'll go the way of Gambler and Clobber and rate the players I've seen live.

Fred Trueman , Brian Statham ,Wes Hall, Dennis Lillee , Malcolm Marshall , Andy Roberts , Richard Hadlee , Colin Croft , Courtney Walsh , Curtley Ambrose , Allan Donald , Wasim Akram , Mike Proctor , Peter Pollock.

Lillee was fantastic , but Marshall was the best I've ever seen . just brilliant!

...my maths is crap too , but I'm not cutting it back!!

Perhaps if I only started watching cricket in the last 12 months, I would include Ntini in my greatest ever list.... He is a good bowler (no doubt) but you cant compare him with the likes of the others you mentioned. Lillee and Marshall (RIP) are certainly legends.

Your list includes many of mine...except you seem to go back a much longer way than me mate....

by the way Sledger, I noticed your list doesn't include Joel Garner. Was it an over-sight...or you didn't rate the Big Bird as highly as me?

Also did you see much of Garth Le Roux? I only got to see him in one season of the World Series...not enough to consider him as a great. But I remember he was certainly a handful for all the batsmen...and I believe he ended up with a very good average while playing 1st class cricket in SA and England.

I forgot the Big Bird mate , he was top class too! When I came to SA , Garth was playing for Western Province and opened the attack with Stephen Jeffries - solid pairing and plenty of pace! Both could bat too and would be in the frame to play for their country today.

One I've not mentioned is Vince van der Bijl , great bowler , but not express pace. He played one season in England in 1980 and that was enough to help Middlesex win the championship. Mike Brearley was very complimentary about Big Vince , a top bowler!

John Snow was pretty fiery too , just ask any Aussie batsman of 1971 !!
