well, it looks like razzaqfan and I are the only Ntini supporters, Anyway, we all have different opinions but I never knew waqar younis had such an excellent strike rate in tests in odi's. I figure bond will be one for the future as well but injuries has deprive him of a good career.

Yes dennis lillee was good but I think out of all, michael holding have to be given credit for bowling his heart out on such lifeless pitch to take 14 wickets on.

Anyway , the topic has been quite debatable.

3 Good years doesn't make you an all time great. Ntini is undoubtably one of the best fast bowlers in the world now, but he simply cannot be compared to the likes of Marshall, Lillee, Akram, Hadlee, McGrath etc. who were/still are in mcgrath's case, brilliant throughout their whole career.

The Stats speak for themselves, after playing the same number of matches as Ntini has during their respective careers, McGrath had taken 50 more scalps thanks Ntini (who currentyl has 269), Hadlee 80 more wickets, Lillee 80 more wickets. Those stats alone put Them a notch above Ntini, and there are plenty more to prove it.

5-0 You Beauty!!!!!

Thanks for the many fantastic memories Marto, Langer, Warney & Pidg

If this question was put to a panel of eminent cricketers of past and present , I GUARANTEE Makhaya Ntini wouldn't get a mention!

Have you seen Ntini bowl on slow , lifeless pitches , he's a complete waste of space! Great quicks were successful on any sort of wicket , through guile , not out and out pace.

Another thing , Ntini isn't quick either , when compared to the true pacemen . 140 kph is around as quick as he gets and that's pedestrian compared to the Holdings and Marshalls of this world.

I suppose you must be forgiven for being very young , but footage of the greats can be found and I suggest you get out there and spend your pocket money on REAL speedsters!

You are entitled to your opinion but you should at least try to back it up instead of just swishing in the wind.

Also no one is bullying you. If you are going to come on to a busy message board and post absolute rubbish then you can expect to be picked up on it.

I know what you mean sledger, I know he can't be compared but maybe I am jusy pointing out that he is good cause I don't think a dumb bowler (ntini) would take 6-22 against the aussies.

Well, some of us are young and thats our opinion. No one ever said that he (ntini) is better than Mcgrath cause there is no doubt that mcgrath is the best around today.

Anyway, thats what we are here for as well, to learn and thanks for upgrading our knowledge sledge, clobs, claps and all you guys. Its that I have never saw lillee or hadlee or trueman before but I have seen marshall, garner, holding and all the great windies legend.

Holding, Garner, A.roberts, M.Marshall, Mcgrath, Akram, W.Younis, kapil, Lillee, Walsh.

ntini is just in good form and can't be evn compared with the greats. same with freddie, he is a very good bowler but again can't be compared with the legends.

Get on the net and find cricket memorabilia sites , you'll be able to buy videos , dvd's of the masters of cricket.

That's got to be better value than Robbie Willaims cd's!

Absolutely right Sledger. Ntini, Pathan, Vaas etc. might be the best bowlers for their teams, but when it comes to all times best speedsters (top ten), they wouldn't have a mention. This fact has to be realized by our young members.

That a great thread, actually its easier to list ten batsmen, as we can have top six very easily, but for bowlers its difficult, just look at the wickets taken walsh and kapil dev have been on top but it had more to do with longavity than skills, even the windies never rated walsh over Marshal, holding, roberts, although he is the highest wicket taker, similarly Kapil, Botham, Hedley, and Imran have always been up there as excellent allrounders but as bowlers, they are no match to likes of wasim, Waqar, Macgrath, marshal, Lille etc

I would rate the top from each country in what I consider the best order and then we can narrow down, would love to have a contribution to rate the best in your country.

West indies  Holding, Marshal, Roberts, Garner, Ambrose, Walsh

Pakistan      Wasim, Waqar,Imran, Fazal, Sarfaraz, Shoab

Australia     Macgrath, Lilee , Macdermott, Thomson,

England      Trueman, Snow, Willis, Botham, Gough

Newzealand   Hedley, Bond, Kairns

India       Kapil,Pathan, Srinath,Madanlal

Sri lanka     Vas, Asantha demel, Ratnaikay

South Africa   Allan donald, Shaun Pollock, M. Ntini

This is from my memory, but if we have a list of the best in each country than we can make out the best all over.

Nice selections Wisey ! Neil Adcock , Peter Pollock and Mike Proctor were terrific quicks from South Africa.

Brian Statham and Harold Larwood can't be forgotten for England. MacKenzie , Lindwall and Miller were terrific for Australia too. Sylvester Clarke , Ezra Mosley and Wayne Daniel weren't exactly slow for the Windies either!

In the 2nd one he clobbered Pollock behind the ear and that didn't happen very often , I'll tell you!

Clarke impressed so much that he stayed on and played in Ricey's "mean machine" . They were unbeatable and would've sorted out many a test side at that time.

What do you think of this for a provincial side :-

J.Cook H.Fotheringham A.Kallicharan G.Pollock C.Rice K.McKenzie A.Kourie R.Jennings H.Page S.Clarke V vd Bilj

They were brutal on all opposition Clobs and went unbeaten for several seasons. Isolation hurt the South Africans and they just gave their all in the domestic competitions. The curry cup matches against Western Province were always sellouts.

They had a good side too , but they never came close to beating Transvaal . WP had G.Gooch , P. Kirsten ,K.McKwen,A.Kuiper ,J.Emburery , G.le Roux , S.Jefferies and some others I've forgotten!!

Two terrific sides that had some seriously tough battles - great cricket!

I want everyone to rate their own country's best over the years, but has to have a logic, sylvester clarke was a good bowler, so was wayne daniel, but should they be considered amongst the top five west indian bowlers, similary, geofry Miller was a legend, but how is he rated by ausies, in the best five, so first have best five of each, but some statistical support be there, not just personal favourites, then we can have say 25-30 names and rating would be easier.

Couldn't be further from the truth. Hadlee, Imran were great bowlers in their own right, batting aside, and would be in many peoples' top ten. Viv Richards said that Imran Khan was the only bowler he was intimidated by. And look at Hadlee - 431 wickets in 90 matches, was going strong until retirement at the age of 39 - people say McGrath is accurate and going strong at 35, but Hadlee really was the master of accurate bowling and could swing and seam the ball at pace.

Geoff Miller was an offspinner who played for England Wisey. Decent player , but wouldn't fill a cricket ground!

What an allrounder Keith Miller was (R.I.P.)... very quick and off a short run... one man that many leave out of ther best XIs but for no particular reason... But surely there are better quicks then he.
