Good news for Henderson Clobs. He's done a sterling job for your lads , nice reward by what's still a family club and long may it remain so.

International underachiever , Mark Ramprakash scored his 7th ton of the championship season against Hampshire yesterday. He's on 124* as Surrey reached 283-2 at the close.  He passed the significant milestone of 30,000 runs during this knock - pity they weren't all test runs!

Claude celebrated by knocking up a lifetime best of 81 yesterday.

He is a rare example of a kolpak that is actually giving something back to the English game - if only there were a few more like him.

If he had the more mature outlook on life back then that he does now they probably would have been!

Fine professional Henderson, Clobs , he made some nice half centuries over here - no mug with the bat !

In Athers' book he talked of the intensity that Ramprakash took into test matches. He was so hyped up that Athers believed it completely restrained all that natural talent. In the nets he looked a million dollars.......then out in the middle it all disappeared.

Apparetnyl ramprakash often took an hours to calm down after he got out, not exactly great for the team.

Good to see he's doing well for Surrey though, after all we need all the runs we can get.

Somerset are promoted to Division One of the LVCC Division One after a 199-run win over Glamorgan today.

We're in unstoppable form at the moment, and we've a strong chance of promotion from the Pro40 Division Two as well.

Elsewhere, wins for Essex, Gloucestershire, Durham while Hampshire are fighting to save their game against Surrey.

I picked up a very strong rumour that HD Ackerman will not be a Leics player next season - Sussex or Somerset seem to be the most likely destinations.

Next season is shaping up to be totally grim!

We don't need him, unless he wants to come as a Twenty20 specialist.

Can't see him getting into our Championship or one-day sides, to be honest.

At his best he may be, but his current form doesn't suggest he is at his best, and, therefore I wouldn't have him displacing White, McKenzie, Hildreth or Edwards in our nicely settled (and performing) top order.

Never turn your nose up at someone as experienced as HD  mate - he's been a fine player and shrewd with it too.

Why have I got the impression that he's a bit of an awkward customer then?

Here would be what was forming my impression of him:

Anyway, it has been announced that HD Ackerman has stood down as Foxes captain, a decision not especially surprising given rumours of dressing room strife during last season. He is now looking forward to focussing on his batting this season.

We're down to 2 South Africans for next season; Ackerman the skipper, whom by all accounts isn't liked by the rest of the players

It was also only a year or so ago we were putting our faith in the homegrown youngsters to carry the club forward. The likes of Matt Wood, Wes Durston, Carl Gazzard are working hard just to get a chance of a first team place - if we are going to be signing Kolpaks left right and centre, it rather sends out some mixed messages.

He wasn't the most popular captain ever, that much is true.

Given your last comment JP how do you feel about Somerset having Omari Banks playing for their 2nds right now with a view to him joining on a Kolpak for 2008?

Unless he's using an assumed name, he hasn't played for our seconds.

Hampshire seconds, yes, but not Somerset. I don't like the principle, but with the limit on overseas players coming down to one next year, most counties will try to get round it, so I suppose everyone has to play catch up.

I think my views on Kolpaks are pretty well known Clobber, I'd rather see young English players in the side but it all comes down to money so I can see why counties employ them.

Talking of Kolpaks, Neil McKenzie is possibly going to return next season, as a Kolpak, as well as Charl Willoughby with Langer the only registered overseas pro.

With Kieswetter presumably a Kolpak as well (he may have some English roots so doesn't qualify) my ideal of a virtually all-English side isn't going to happen.

So much for that initiative between the ECB and CSA!

Good player McKenzie , he's been hard done by, by CSA in my opinion.

Looking at the possibles for your side next season JP - the core of the side is more South African than South Africa itself! (almost anyway!)

Did anyone else watch Surrey Kent last night. Great game that Surrey won by 1 wicket on the last ball.

Means that Surrey go third into a playoff place and we play Somerset next at the Oval, hopefully should be another great game.

An interesting story this morning from Leics outlining their policies for the coming years, specifically the target benchmark of having 4 England qualified players aged 25 or less in each Championship side.

Whilst this is essentially a means of dressing up the fact that we are leaking players left right and centre whilst unable to afford replacements, the long term implications are positive in my opinion and ensures that young players coming through the ranks will be givne plenty of opportunities.

They are already trying out the scheme though just now it has meant selecting one of two who just aren't good enough, although today it takes a step further with the likely debut of 17 year old batsman Josh Cobb who's been doing good things in the 2nd XI.

It was doing the job earlier, Ryan Cummins taking five wicket as you bowled Northamptonshire out for 310. Cobb is next in to bat with you at 167 for 4 in reply.

I've been in touch with Somerset to try and clear this up, and Omari Banks was offered a trial, but he wasn't offered terms, hence his non-appearance in the second team.

The Ackerman story is apparently news to them too, but I expected them to say that.
