It looks like another easy draw for the folks at Taunton this week, heading down on Sunday for the Ireland game but I'm not going on Saturday if there's going to be another nothing game in the County Championship, but the Friends Provident should be a good one to watch.
By the way here's how the England players have fared on their come backs from the World Cup:
Liam Plunkett (31 (57) and 5-2-14-0)
Paul Nixon (no catches or stumpings and not yet required to bat)
Michael Vaughan (72 (123)) Monty Panesar (18-2-72-1)
Ravi Bopara (26 (63), Alastair Cook also hit a century for Essex)
Not bad really from any of them, the only disappointment for me would be that Monty only took 1-72 from 18 but I don't know what the pitch is like, it could've been like a Brisbane for the spinners for all we know so you can't judge the performance on figures, especially considering that Monty has bowled fairly well for England in ODI cricket and averages 39.

Yes, Freddie, they are playing on the road again down in Taunton.
Shame I didn't put any money on Katich making a double! |

At least it wasn't his knee Kerm! Sussex belted by an innings twice already this season - who'd have thought that!
Even more surprising - Yorkshire used three legspinners during the 1st innings of Hampshire yesterday! The promising youngster Rashid sent down 26 overs of top quality leggies (watched by Shane too!) and wasn't cut for 4 once - classy stuff. Rudolph and Younis sent down a few too - surely that's a first for a Yorkshire side in their history - amazing stuff! England mustn't rush the youngster , but England's outlook is much brighter with the possibilty of finally finding a quality wrist spinner (and he bats too!). Well done Terry Jenner , the work in the winter is bearing fruit. |

Rats!!! Just read on the BBC site that Vaughan's got a
fractured middle finger and could be out for 3-4 weeks. No luck
has he and worse still , it was done by Aussie , Stuart Clark!!
I can hear the guffawing from 10,000 miles away! |

I think someone needs to have a conversation with the GM about the quality of their gloves.....
Wonder who will captain now, I imagine they will give it to Strauss or Colly. Edited by Kerm - 04 May 2007 at 8:58am |

I'd have thought Strauss. If there's good news about Vaughan's
injury , the selectors shouldn't have a headache choosing the batting
lineup for the 1st test.

Got to be Strauss. Vaughan's injury will have eliminated any doubts about his place in the side.

Its a shame really, Vaughan was looking in really good county form so far, carrying over from his sensational last ODI match he was starting to prove that he can do it again now to be setback by an injury must be tough.

Yeah, would be great to see Strauss play magnificantly as England captain, he should have been last year really but Flintoff got it so would be a nice sight.

Meanwhile, what is going wrong at Sussex? Two losses in three, following an innings defeat inside 2 days against Kent yesterday.
They're in danger of doing a Nottinghamshire and being relegated after winning the title. |

They just dont seem to be able to carry on where they left off, they got totally smashed yesterday, it wasnt even a fighting loss, they are either going to have to bounce back a bit or thoughts of another title will soon be out of the window.

Did I see somewhere that the guile, flight and altogether hopeless legspin of Younis Khan managed to capture 4-25 the other day? Or do I need to go to the psychiatrist again?

4 for 52. A performance, allied to a century and double-century earlier in the match, won him the Cricket World® Player Of The Week award.

By the way it's happened today. Marcus Trescothick has hit a County Championship century for Somerset up at Northants. A moment ago Somerset were 310-2 from 90.3 overs, Trescothick has moved onto 174* from 253 balls with 21 fours and 3 sixes, he has been backed up nicely by Justin Langer (86) and both of the wickets have been taken by England's king of spin, Mr. Monty Panesar has taken 2-83 from 24 overs.

Terrific knock by Tresco , but Monty apart , what have Northants
got in the bowling department? Still , you can only play what's
in front of you and he did that perfectly - batting all day is still a
fine achievement.

good that Tresco still has his appetite for runs anyway, and I am sure he will be itching to score a few against the Windies attack (if he gets to play of course, you know how tour matches go these days).

Yep , they hide all prospective test opponents , pathetic isn't it.
If that's correct and Tresco doesn't play , then can we assume that he'll be back sometime during this test series? |

Hopefully not, I think it would be too soon...and don't think either of Strauss or Cook would deserve being left out which would be the likely upshot assuming Vaughan plays.
I do wonder if he might fancy his chances come the one dayers though? |

That'd be a sensible move Clobs , not the intensity of test cricket , but international exposure all the same....
.....and we'd score at more than 2 an over in the powerplays!! |
