Tempted fate yet again Clobs - I seem to remember you tipping Scotland for the WC just minutes before their 1st match and we know what happened then!

Not a joke, just a trivial comment:
What is the difference between Somerset Cricket Club and the motorway?
None, they seem to bat on them anyway, home or away.

Whatever they do they just cannot get a good bowling pitch wherever they play this season, Somerset are on 641-6 after two days with Trescothick hitting a huge 284, the highest score of his first-class career by a monumental 65 runs, also good innings from Hildreth (111) and Blackwell (81 from 47), and surprise surprise, Monty Panesar delivers the goods with half of his team's 6 wickets so far.

Also in the clash of the titans in the County Championship, Lancashire V Hampshire at the Rose Bowl, the first day's play is at an end, and there has been no play, not surprising seeing as it's Lancashire playing and the weather always seems to be biased against them. Hopefully though it should be a good match if it ever gets going.

Just how do Lancashire manage to take the rain clouds all the way to The Rose Bowl - uncanny!
Many a drought in Africa , maybe getting The Red Roses to tour will be the answer.

Another ton for Jaques Rudolph for Yorkshire. 129* in a big total of 521-7 dec.   Worcester are 57-2 in reply.

Great start to the season for the White Rose outfit!

one of the newspaper websites had Simon Hughes doing a video profile of Rashid, which was the first time I'd seen him play, and he looks good with an action like a more rangy version of Mushy and seems to have his head screwed on too.

Hoggy has just gotten his 5 wicket haul so thats a clean sweep for England bowlers doing well

Imagine now the selection will be

1. Cook
2. Strauss (24*)
3. Bell
4. Pieterson
5. Collingwood (52*)
6. flintoff (61)
7. Keeper (maybe reversed)
8. Plunkett (5 wickets)
9. Hoggard (5 wickets (so far))
10. Harmison (4 wickets)
11. Panesar (3 wickets)

For the start of the test series. Saying that if Simon Jones come back from injury and finds some form he would be straight in in my opinion.

I've had a good look round and i can't seem to find out how long Dale Steyn's stint will be with Warwickshire? Help appreciated :)

I've been to see a few games at the Riverside this season. Pity England are taking Harmy and Pudsey from Durham. They have been bowling really well, although i'm looking forward to seeing them help towards a better summer for England.

I would of gone for Ambrose as wk as he deserves it on form. Prior has done well over the years but hes not playing his best recently. For me it's the correct decision to leave Nixon out even though he was one of the few performers at the wc. We have to look to the future. We'll see.....

Steyn's done well , wickets and a quickfire 50.   I'm surprised that CSA haven't allowed him to play the entire season as SA tour England next year. Surely the experience would be a great help to their quickest bowler?

Then again , CSA are incredibly difficult to fathom......

Nice to see Leicestershire doing their bit again for young English talent....by signing 30 year old South African Arno Jacobs on a Kolpak in a bid to bolster the feeble batting we've seen so far this season.

Is he any good Sledge?

He didn't make any waves in domestic cricket here Clobs , just another journeyman I'm afraid.

To better news , Joe Denly continues to impress , carrying his bat (115*) in the match against Hampshire. The total of 199 and Hampshire's reply of 124-6 suggesting that the wicket was anything but flat.
Denly gave two chances in his knock that were grassed , but he became the 1st Kent player to bat through an innings in 4 years - and that against an attack containing the great Shane Warne and redoubtable Stuart Clark.

I've not seen this lad , but the reports just get better and better.

liking the recruitment of Scott Styris at Durham. Hope he can bring the good form and displays to the riverside from the solid world cup performances.

Some performance by David Hussey for Notts against Derby yesterday fellas!  In a 13 over thrash (rain reduced) he hit 32 off the last over bowled by Greg Smith , including 5 successive 6's!   He made 56 off just 20 balls in a total of 170-6!!
     They won by 50 runs.

By the way Trescothick fans don't worry the reason he didn't bat against Gloucester was because of tendonitis and not anything worse.

I have never seen this happen before but Somerset have declared on 50-8 against Middlesex, I can see it being tactical so Middlesex don't pick up maximum bowling points but how bizarre.

I guessed perhaps they didn't want to risk our bowlers against the seaming ball and thought they'd have a chance of bowling Middlesex out for next to nothing.

That isn't going to happen though.

When that 50-8 declared came up on sky last night, I thought it was a typo and it was supposed to be 500-8 declared, I suppose it's a good tactic to deny your opponent bonus points though

Yeah I agree, they're hardly going to get many more runs so why not prevent the extra bonus point. As it turned out Somerset got 3 bonus points to Middlesex's 4, so if there is a draw then they will both end up with roughly the same amount of points, anyway Somerset were being tactical again last night by sending in Kieswetter and Trego meaning that they have still got Langer, White, Hildreth and Blackwell to come, Kieswetter and Trego are two good batsmen too though, Kieswetter hit 70 from 60 balls on his debut from number 8 with Somerset struggling on 170-6 to take them up to 300-8, and Trego already has some 50's and centuries this season.

By the way, why are Leicestershire playing in Rutland?

just got back from the Riverside after a fantastic day of cricket. Sun shining and some brilliant performances today, Di Venuto and Mustard started off very well and both looked in extremely good touch. Followed by a solid innings from Smith and an explosive knock from Benkenstein, who was hitting the bowlers all over the place.

Worcestershire started there reply badly losing Jacques to a brilliant catch from Styris and that set the tone for rest of there innings. Breese finally got a wicket this season :) then four more followed. Decent performances from Harmison and Gibson but Plunkett was poor....

I can't wait now for the huge game on sunday against a very exciting Yorkshire team.

Depends if you believe that Rutland still exists as a county. Wink

For some purposes it does, obviously for cricketing administration, it doesn't.
