We're just in 2007, and although there aren't any games just yet, I though I'd create a thread with some links to the latest stories, transfers and things.
Cricket World county section: here County fixtures: here Who are your tips for the titles this year? And who do you think have recruited best over the winter? Edited by -JP- - 03 January 2007 at 1:31pm |

Well we aren't winning any awards as regards recruitment, with the only player movements being those out the door!

I think we've done ok, with Langer returning, and Ben Phillips and Mark Turner being solid additions to the squad.

Here are my predictions going into the new county season for silverware:
County Championship Division One: Sussex (if they perform to their standard last year they could well retain the Championship, with stiff competition from Lancashire and Hampshire)
County Championship Division Two: Middlesex (expecting them to bounce back up to the top flight easily)
Pro40 League Division One: Essex (Won it for the last 2 seasons, so my early prediction is on a third straight title for Essex)
Pro40 League Division Two: Middlesex (same as before)
ECB Trophy: Sussex (backing them to retain the trophy if they perform as well as last season in this competition)
Twenty20 Cup: Leicestershire (won it twice in the last three seasons, have been the best at Twenty20 statistically since it's inception in 2003, backing them to do it again) Edited by Freddie - 04 January 2007 at 3:02pm |

Before tipping us to win the T20 don't forget that the King of Twenty20 is now a Warwickshire player!

I think that Hampshire will win it this year, the county championship.

Plenty of action in the transfer market today:
Darren Gough going back to Essex, and Stuart Clark joining Hampshire. Without looking at the article I've just put up, name as many other Australians who've played for Hampshire in recent years as you can. I thought of six straightaway; I may have missed some though. |

Yes, Robbie, Richard Prybus
Rumours are suggesting that Moxon may be shortly announced as the new Yorkshire coach. |

Yes, he's only 17 but he seems a fairly decent player.

Leicestershire have signed RP Singh as their second overseas player for next season - the coach evidently oblivious to the fact that what we really need is a dependable batsman to back up HD.

Glamorgan have signed Aussie Matt Elliot for the first four weeks of
the coming season. Elliot was scheduled to play for Yorkshire until the
arrival of Younis Khan after the World Cup. Pakistan's early exit means
Younis will start the season at Yorkshire.
Elliot will be replaced by fellow Aussie Jimmy Maher for the rest of the season after his four week stint. |

It will be fairly common knowledge by now I guess but Marcus Trescothick made his Somerset comeback today in a pre-season friendly against Devon, making a mere 256 fro 177 balls including 25 fours and 19 sixes (Somerset running up 502 for 4 off 50 overs!)

I must say when he vanished from Australia I was sure that was the last we'd be seeing of him but their opening woes in the shorter games makes me suspect he'll be back, possibly sooner than anyone could have imagined - if he wants to expose himself to that level again that is.
