You can enforce the follow on if you're 150 ahead in four day games (100 in three-day) Monty, so not much bad luck floating around really.

Not a mention for Mark Ramprakash's 100th hundred then fellas?  The 38 year old managed it at Headingley last week and joins just 24 others to have achieved the feat.  He could be one of a dying breed , what with central contracts , the top boys just don't play enough county cricket to get there.
Next possible member of the club could well be Justin Langer , who has 83 tons , but will he play on long enough?

Well done Ramps , fantastic effort.  Strange thing though - he made his test debut alongside Graeme Hick , another centurion who didn't cut it at the top level. Ironic huh.

Good grief , JP must be having kittens!   Somerset are 59-7 at lunch against Notts at Taunton !!  4 of the top 5 out for a single apiece including Tresco and Langer - a living nightmare !  JP , what's the lowest 1st class score at Taunton from a side batting first?
Shows what a bit o' rain can do to a pitch huh !

We did this against Hampshire earlier this year and bounced back for a draw. We're just giving them a chance!

And we've long surpassed the 37 registered by Gloucestershire as a ground low.

Lowest batting first is 48 by Lancashire in 1892. I dare say you remember that well, Sledge.

I am surprised Ramparkash's 100th hundred did not get much attention it deserved  anywhere. Not here and not on the premier ricket web sites either. Pity that. He may well be the last one to have acheived the feat. Or is it a case of the hype that was created when he got to 99?

Agreed zuhair , it's a tremendous feat.  Maybe there's just a feeling , especially amongst English fans , that something was missing in his makeup that stopped him being the test batsman he should have been.  A great pity , because he really does have all the shots.

HE certainly does. I was reading somewhere yesterday that Ramps should be given a chance in the 4th test, just to bid him a farewell he deserves. Was not that bad an idea I suppose. Had they played with 6 regular batsmen, I would have opted for him ahead of Bopara

The only reason it didn't get so much attention was that it got buried amid all the stuff surrounding the England captaincy, nothing more, nothing less.

The match between Yorkshire and Hampshire's very well poised going into the last 2 days.

Yorkshire batted first and made 236 all out with Jacques Rudolph making 89.
In reply Hampshire were bowled out for 236.
Adil Rashid was outstanding, bowling a VERY long spell (check the scorecard to see what I mean) and taking 7-107 off 31.1 overs.

Left Arm Orthodox bowler David Wainwright also did well with figures of 2-28 off 12 overs.
He also didn't do too bad with the bat either, scoring 25 coming in at number 9 and putting on a partnership of 75 with Rudolph.

One thing we do need though, to have a good chance of winning, is for our top/middle order to start firing again. It's frustrating as hell as there's bags of potential/ability in our top/middle order yet we're struggling to make some runs.
If it wasn't for Rudolph in that 1st innings, supported by Wainwright, we'd have been in serious trouble.

All even going into the 2nd innings, and we really need a win.

And after half an hour of play today, we will have taken the lead in the match.

7 wickets is some effort and his best so far , can he make the touring partner to India ?  My gutfeel is no - he's young and getting clobbered by the Indian top order wouldn't be good for his confidence.

What's going on with that Durham/Kent game.  3 low scores in 3 innings - diabolical pitch?

Not according to the ECB pitch inspection team. I can only assume fine bowling and some poor batting.

OK.

Well, there we go, 465 4uns and 40 wickets.  Definitely either some poor batting, brilliant bowling or a wicked bowling pitch.

Hammered by 10 wickets matey , what kind of collapse was that 2nd time around!  Lots of interest in SA about Imran Tahir. He lives here now and has married a South African girl.  He's no spring chicken at 29 , but being a leg spinner , I think there's a real chance of being selected for the SA national squad.  He's played for Pakistan A - does that mean he can't play though ?

That win gets Hampshire out of the bottom two and puts Yorkshire right in the mire - it could be a long season Tykey!

Another new kid on the block had a fine day yesterday. Robbie Joseph was reported as sending down some really hostile stuff at Canterbury (hostile and Canterbury aren't normal bedfellows) and took 5-13 against Derbyshire , who were shot out for a paltry 60.
He's another player I've never seen , just how promising is he , any views from the English cricket followers here ?

He's a strong looking lad, capable of some impressive, and sharp spells, but at nearly 27 time isn't on his side.

I presume he has had injuries, plus as he is actually West Indian he wasn't eligible to play as a home player until he had completed his residential qualifications in 2004/5

Yep, he's from Antigua and I think he's related to West Indian Sylvester Joseph.  West Indies seem to be losing all their fiery fast bowlers to England now.  First Chris Jordan now we're hearing of this one.  I guess it's simply down to the Caribbean not being able to help develop them and that other countries know how to do it.  And not to forget more money outside the Caribbean too, bar Stanford cricket.

Another setback for Simon Jones - he's ruled out for the rest of the season . He will undergo knee surgery for a cartilage problem.  Tragic that , after looking so good for quite some time. One must ask just how much more of the knife can the lad take.

Geezaloo, why don't Jones get a new knee and kill two birds with one stone.
