I think Rooney, with his new hair, would be most upset to be likened to that bloke in the photo!

Interesting performances in Gloucestershire's T20 match with Middlesex yesterday, when both Kevin O'Brien and Hamish Marshall made centuries for Gloucs, which I think is probably the first time that has happened.

I also think its the most sixes in a T20 knock , 11 sixes, Kevin O'Brien!

Graham Napier hit 16 sixes in a T20 innings a couple of years back, making 152* off 58 balls.

I hope someone puts the slower ball that Razzaq bowled tonight up on YouTube - it was so slow and loopy that Rich Pyrah managed to pretty much play 2 different shots to it, and missed with both!

ps Warwickshire can sod off - they are nothing but the Surrey of the Midlands, the totally classless way they seek to unsettle players under contract to other teams.

Haha.. Superb absolutely superb. At 57.5mph and that loopy very much similar to a spinner.  Beautiful. Thanks for the video.

Triffic delivery !!   So many bowlers attempt the slower ball and there aren't many who can bowl it straight enough - Razzak, take a bow !

A great weekend for Lancashire as they beat the old enemy , Yorkshire by 23 runs and Somerset surprised Durham. So just 5 points behind Durham with a game in hand - can this be the year when the title goes to the finest county in the country ?
I'll be watching the weather forecasts closely !

Lancashire versus Notts at Southport today , huge match !  The lads are just 5 points behind Durham with this game in hand - even a high scoring draw will take them top , but they'll be going flat out for victory!
I have great memories of Southport - we went there back in 1960 and I saw Sooty and Sweep - memorable !!

What a seesaw affair at Southport folks !   Notts won the toss and decided to bat , a decision that looked dodgy after slumping to 69-7 !!    In that collapse they went from 27-1 to 27-5 , sheesh !!     The tail wagged though and they got to 203 before the last wicket fell.  The same thing happened against Yorkshire last week , but Lancashire did prevail.
In reply Lancashire started confidently and reached 67 without loss , a terrific start!  Typically it didn't last and on a pitch where wickets fell in clumps , they were reduced to 76-4 by the close !
Obviously this is a result wicket  , but Lancashire are a long , long way from being on the right side of that result !

The Lancs - Yorks game was remarkable too, not least when Yorks somehow got themselves into a dominant position briefly after having been 45-8 in their first innings.

So Lancashire's return to Southport ends in a heavy defeat by Nottinghamshire.  More importantly , they only picked up 3 points from the game and so are still 2 points behind Durham after the same number of matches.  What was impressive was the crowd on each day of the match , some 2,500 every day , which on such a small ground looked filled to capacity.   Good to see that numbers are increasing in county championship matches.
It's not a fatal blow to Lancashire's chances , but it was a missed opportunity and they'll need to bounce back quickly or it could be yet another season of "what might have beens".

Yes Clobs and apparently the players were given a standing ovation at the conclusion of the match. That's remarkable because a Yorkshire crowd historically isn't very friendly to a visiting Red Rose team !

Paul Nixon has announced he will retire from all forms of cricket after Leics' T20 quarter final with Kent on Saturday - he has decided he simply isn't able to his fitness levels to the standard he wants them - mind you this is a guy who I would bet is fitted than 95% of cricketers around the world, even at 40%, but his standards are so high he has decided if he can't maintain them, it is time to go.

Also sad to see him go, been around for ever. Always remember when he jumped into the England fans after beating Australia in the c/b final. Greal character.

No mention of the titanic battle going on at Liverpool Flipper ?   Warwickshire managed a 91 run lead after 1st innings , but Lancashire have reduced that by 32 before the close and still have 10 wickets left.   Mahmood bowled 12 no balls in that innings and that included a wicket that went awol. He's always been susceptible to no balls and until that gets sorted he'll stay way down the pecking order for England.
Warwaickshire won't want to chase anything over 200 with spin becoming a major factor. The bad news for Lancashire is the weather forecast for tomorrow is rotten ! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Lancashire had a fine day yesterday and ended up on 374-9 , a lead of 283 runs.  Star of the day though was Rikkie Clark , who took SEVEN outfield catches to equal the world record for non-wicketkeeping catches in an innings.  If he takes the last one today , he'll have the record outright and will equal the great Wally Hammond's TEN catches in a match for an outfielder which he set way back in 1928 !!
6 of those catches were taken at 2nd slip - that's unusual in itself !

I fancy Lancashire to win this , but the weather could ruin it.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr  the weather did intervene and plenty of time was lost. Lancashire needed two wickets for the win when the match finished , Warwickshire had no chance of winning.
It's tight at the top and Warws will be much happier with the draw. Durham can stretch their lead if they win their match against Nottinghamshire that's in day 3 now.

A fabulous win for the Leicester Foxes tonight in the T20 quarter finals. I was getting mightily fed up during the Kent innings as Azhar (91 off 52) and Van Jaarsveld (63* off 32) lashed it to all parts, reaching a daunting 203 for 3.

I figured that someone would have to make an 80 or 90 odd for Leics to have a chance but instead guys just kept coming out and blasting 20 or so in no time then getting out, and between them they somehow got the job done so well, aided by the fact that Kent's 3 international seamers, Azhar, Langeveldt and Wahab for the most part bowled a pile of filth, conceding 134 off 10.2 overs between them.

I am not one to tempt fate but as soon as this draw was made, my mind was cast back to the last time Leics won the T20 in 2006.....when they won a home quarter final on that occasion....against Kent.
