Lancashire's drive for their 1st County  Championship title since 1934 continues. After day 1 at Blackpool against Worcestershire they posted 288 all out and have the visitors reeling on 77-5 (they were 21-5 !!).  It's a great position to be in and they must go for the jugular today after 15 wickets fell on day 1.

Please don't let the weather stuff this one up.............

Holding my breath as Lancashire win and have daylight over the chasing pack!  Notts can do a big favour if they beat Durham today and then just 3 matches from glory !!

Notts did beat Durham , which leaves Lancashire 10 points ahead of Durham , who've played one match more !  It's looking very good for the Red Rose county - I'm getting excited !!  Big smile

awesome awesome awesome semi win for Leics - this despite literally everything that could have gone against them going against them, including some rather dubious officiating. The rain too seemed to make it impossible, not least when Lancs were left 27 off 17 balls with 9 wickets in hand and none of Leics main bowlers being allowed to bowl having all bowled 2/3 overs, so 2 part timers had to defend 17 off the last 2 overs. Somehow Cobb and White did that, leaving Lancs 7 to win off 1 ball...which disappeared out of the park. A tie! Super over!

Claude Henderson then showed the value of class and experience under huge pressure, after the first ball of the super over was hit for 6, bowling dot balls off the 5th & 6th deliveries to limit the score to 13, which the giant Will Jefferson chased down with a ball to spare.

Either Somerset or Hants will be hot favourites for the final, but after coming through all this, Leics have to keep backing themselves.

blimey, another super over in the second semi after a spectacular implosion by Somerset, who only needed 5 off the last over and managed just 4....happily for them they have Afonso Thomas to bowl their super over and he is pretty much unhittable, so they go through.

JP v Clobber in the final!

I would have preferred Hants to be honest, the Somerset batting line up is just fearsome.

It was a sensational catch for sure.

I was pretty down for the first half of that final. I was livid at the change in the batting order to let Razzaq open, depriving us of power hitting at the death, and by the end was convinced we were 30 runs short. People have rightly raved about Josh Cobb's bowling in the final - and what a day the young man had, being dismissed by the first ball of finals day then taking 6 wickets in 5 overs - but Henderson's role was immense in the final too, conceding just 11 from his four overs and ramping up the pressure to a level that proved beyond the much vaunted Somerset batting order.

Henderson - a good ole Cape Cobras man matey !!  A rock solid one day cricketer who just didn't really get the opportunities for the national side - he must've upset somebody.

Claude is that rare example of a Kolpak who has actually given a hell of a lot back to the side he signed for.

In the semi when Leics were having to bowl part timers at the death, he was there giving Josh Cobb every bit of advice he possibly could, and then before the super over, he took Will Jefferson aside to go into where he should be looking to hit Gary Keedy.

As Nixon said afterwards, he should have received many many more SA caps.

Yes Clobs it's a mystery why he missed out so often ,  because he always performed admirably in the domestic competitions here in both 4 day and 1 day mode - his batting has saved the day on a number of occasions for Western Province as well.
Nicky Boje kept him out of the national side most of the time - there was little to choose between them , but if there was some bounce, then Henderson would have been my choice.

I saw Claude Henderson play for SAF in the early 2000s in Australia and he was decidedly ordinary against a monster batting line up (Hayden, Waugh, Ponting, Langer, Martyn, M Waugh, Gilchrist). That didn't help his career out at all...

Alan Richardson ripped through Lancashire’s top order as lowly Worcestershire immeasurably enhanced their LV= County Championship survival chances with a spectacular 10-wicket win inside two days at New Road. O.k then perhaps its time to get fidgety sledge!!

Disaster !!  Lancashire's championship dreams blown out of the water by lowly Worcestershire !!   To have a chance now they'll have to win the last two matches methinks .  The weather has stuffed them in the past and given them some sort of excuse when falling short - no such get outs exist this season - yesterday they showed no fight.

Simply disappointing - Iuckily I can turn to the rugby next week!

History in the making on Monday when the Division 2 County Championship 4 day match between Kent and Glamorgan at Canterbury will be a day/night affair.   Play will be from 2pm-9pm and they'll be using a pink ball. Neither side is involved in the promotion race , so it's a good time to give it a go.
The crowds in the county championship have been very healthy this season , with up to 3,000 watching division 1 matches. I think day/nighters could increase those numbers with fans heading to the ground after work - that's if the fickle English weather plays it's part!

Lancashire 337-7 when bad light stopped play yesterday against Hampshire.  Good to see that they're going to secure some batting points this game!  Warwickshire are 235-3 at the close on a slow scoring day against Nottinghamshire.

Come on Notts - knock 'em over !!

Wow , both Warwickshire and Lancashire win , but in totally different ways!  The former belted Nottinghamshire by an innings and plenty whilst Lancashire sneaked home with just 10 balls left.  Simon Kerrigan the star for the Red Rose outfit with a career best of 9-51 in the Hampshire 2nd Innings of just 138 to see our lads home !

Brilliant stuff and just one match left , Lancashire travel to JP country and Warwickshire go to Hampshire. Warwickshire are favourites being 3 points ahead and even Durham , 15 points behind have an outside chance.

What's the weather forecast in Cider country from today JP ?

Dead right Clobs - it's been a long time coming !!!    Fantastic finish to a brilliant season  and worthy champions !!  That a team without any superstars has done what other start studded teams has not done is tremendous - well done lads !!

As chuffed as I am , we couldn't have done it without the efforts of the Hampshire batsmen yesterday. I'd no confidence in them seeing out the day after being 4 down overnight - that Carberry and McKenzie (a good SA boy!) batted the entire morning session gave me hope - but I still thought it too much to ask.   That they got through and Lancashire made an improbable 213 off less than 30 overs for the loss of just 2 wickets left me speechless (for about 30 seconds anyway!).
She that must be obeyed was bemused by my antics , but when I explained we'd been waiting 77 long years for this to happen , she began to understand!

Anyway , well done again lads and congratulations to Moores on bringing out the best in a team of youngsters.   They were not expected to do much this season and have surprised everyone with their dashing brand of cricket. That they won the championship without playing a single match at Old Trafford because of the ongoing work there says a lot about the weather in Manchester !     Maybe we should stay away from the place and just use it for test matches !!

                   I'm stoked !!!!!   Clap

All I've seen is some wicketing taking balls on Sky Sports News - we don't get County Cricket on TV out this way.  What I will say after the little I have seen , he's a nice action , good loop and dip and generates decent turn - a good little bowler!

    Then again , I'm biased !

I was recently moaning to a friend about Leics' strange signing policies that never seem to include quality batsmen, so it was a nice surprise to see that Martin van Jaarsveld is joining next season. Possibly past his best now, and coming off his worst season in years, he will still add a bit of steel and quality to the order and help the youngsters develop nicely.
